ABOUT
The Frame Guesthouse is a three-story heritage shophouse in George Town, Penang, that was once home to a frame maker's shop. Today, it has been thoughtfully transformed into a guesthouse that preserves the building's original character while incorporating regional design elements to create a distinctive and memorable experience.
Guided by a commitment to authenticity, functionality, and materials that age gracefully, we restored only what was necessary and preserved the building's timeless charm. Original concrete floors, walls, and surfaces were left with minimal treatment. Rough, peeling textures and visible traces of removed electrical fittings were deliberately preserved to showcase the raw, honest beauty of the space.
Our slogan, "Frame the Right Moment," reflects our mission to help guests capture meaningful memories. Inspired by the building's past as a frame maker's shop, it encourages travelers to treasure the moments, whether exploring George Town's heritage, relaxing in our spaces, or connecting with fellow adventurers.

HISTORY
Old Penang Guesthouse – 2008
Our journey began with the opening of Old Penang Guesthouse on 1 October 2008, located on Love Lane, George Town.
At the time, Love Lane was a much quieter street. The opening of our guesthouse contributed to the transformation of the area, which gradually became a busier and more vibrant part of George Town, with more pubs, bars and nightlife activities. Previously, much of the nightlife and pub scene was concentrated around Penang Road.
The 80’s Guesthouse – 2013
In 2013, we opened our second guesthouse, The 80’s Guesthouse, also located on Love Lane.
This marked the next chapter of our journey, as we continued to welcome travellers to George Town and developed our experience in the hospitality industry.
The Frame Guesthouse – 2015
In January 2015, we opened The Frame Guesthouse, located on Chulia Street in the heart of George Town’s UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Frame is housed in a traditional heritage shophouse, surrounded by the history, culture and everyday life of old George Town. Rather than completely transforming the building into a modern hotel, we chose to preserve its original character — including the old concrete floors, textured walls and other elements that tell the story of the building.
The building was once home to a traditional frame-making shop, which inspired the name “The Frame.” We wanted to retain a connection to the building’s past while giving it a new purpose as a place where travellers could stay, meet and create memories.
The concept behind The Frame is simple: every traveller has a story, and every journey has moments worth remembering.
